. Circa 1957. Solid netal with darkened gold finish. Cartridges are approx. 1/2” long.
This is set if 6 original solid metal Hubley Texan .38 cartridges. These are solid metal and were gold-colored (now darkened with age) ½ inch long bullets (cartridges) that can be loaded into both the Hubley  Texan .38 and Hubley vColt .38 (which are basically the same gun, marketed under different names and with different grips). These are only two Hubley guns that take these cartridges. Hubley had the odd habit of making a different bullet for almost every bullet-loading gun they made. The Texan .38 was a full-size 10” long Western six-shooter with a revolving cylinder. The cylinder had 6 chambers and each could hold one of these cartridges. A round cap was inserted first and then this solid cartridge. When loaded, the gun was closed and with each shot, the cylinder revolved and the hammer hit the back of the metal cartridge, firing the cap inside the cylinder. When all chambers are fired, the Texan .38 featured a shell ejector that operated when the gun was opened, with a platform inside the cylinder pushing all cartridges up and out, ready for another loading. This realistic system made the Texan .38 a popular gun for little cowpokes and also provided an extra income source for Hubley. The tiny 1/2” long cartridges were sure to get lost in backyard play, which is why extra plastic clips of these bullets were sold separately.
These bullets have been fired with caps so there is some dirt and cap powder burns on the front of the bullets. All have no corrosion, cracks or breaks. Your job to clean and/or polish.
