In 2010 to commemorate the Countdown to the 2012 London Olympic Games, the Royal Mint released a very Limited Issue Countdown £5 Five Pound Silver Proof Coin struck in solid .925 Sterling Silver which is the second in the series and Certified Slabbed and Graded by PCGS as PR69 DCAM.
The reverse designed by Claire Aldridge depicts Athletics featuring a dynamic image of competing runners racing for the finishing line and the coveted gold medal.
Also featured is the second countdown number, '2', representing two years to the great event, and the London 2012 Olympic logo in full colour.
The obverse design is the stunning portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank Broadley.
These legal tender coins have been struck to proof quality using specially prepared dies and highly polished blanks.
Why is a Certified coin a better investment?
PCGS & NGC are the main two impartial Numismatic Grading Services in the world and is a guarantee that the coin is genuine and has been graded accurately and professionally.
The sonically sealed solid plastic slabb is individually numbered so that the details of the coin(s) can be verified on a central database, and is also tamperproof.
In addition, the coin is protected from handling and keeps the coin(s) condition and finish long term if looked after which can be detrimental to the value once sold.
